INVESTIGATIONS

At the Northern Eye Centre, we have the latest medical equipment available to achieve the highest standards in patient care.

A laser scanning ophthalmoscope that analyses the retina layers and gives a detailed picture of its structure. It is an essential tool in the management of many retinal and glaucoma cases.

For assessment of peripheral vision, commonly used with patients with glaucoma and optic nerve disease.

This is a test to mainly assess the retinal circulation. A fluorescent dye is injected into a vein in the arm or hand. The dye circulates rapidly in the body reaching the retina in a few seconds. A special camera will then take multiple quick pictures which show the dye in the retina circulation clearly. This test helps us to detect swelling and leakage in the macula (macular oedema). It also shows the early budding of new vessels in the peripheral retina (retina neovascularisation) in eyes with proliferative diabetic retinopathy or with retina vein occlusion. The test also helps to diagnose many other conditions.

B-scan examination involves taking pictures of the eye to identify conditions such as retinal detachment, vitreous haemorrhage and posterior vitreous detachment.

A-scan is used to measure the length of the eye, which is essential information in the preparation of cataract surgery.
